Implementation
for Professional Development
The Planning is Complete...
Now it is time to implement the
program. This is the next important
step for a successful Professional
Development program.
Implementation...
Creating a time line for the program
is a good idea. This can be done
before, during, and after the program.
This will help with the planning,
during the inservice with keeping
activities straight and helps with
keeping the time appropriate. A time
line can also help with the program
afterwards to see that the
Professional Development has been
successful.
Professional Development...
"is not a one-time event but is
instead ongoing and immersed in a
strong support group of other
learners who help and learn from
each other."

As a planner, before the implementation begins, the program outline or lesson plans should have been established
along with goals and the type of evaluation. Everything should have been approved by the administration. A date and
time should have already been set, and materials collected that will be needed. At this point everything should be
complete and ready to go. All that is left to do is present the program to the appropriate audience that it was created for.
With electronic delivery the course or professional development should have already been created and carefully looked
at for pacing of the course. Or, if nodes are being used, the pacing for the course has been discussed with the
administration as well. If there are any materials required, they should be ready to distribute as well. All that is left to do
is present the program to the appropriate audience that it was created for.
Implementation can be looked at in a couple of ways: First, implementing the planning of the program and then secondly actually implementing the program. This can be kind of confusing. However, whatever a planner chooses to call it, there is a need to understand that implementation is much more. It is more that just planning a program and introducing the educators to a topic. It is what is done after the program that is just as important as the program itself. A good planner realizes that after the program, educators must continue to put into practice what it is they have learned and continue to receive support for that learning it is to be successful for everyone involved.

If the links on the Need and Planning site did not provide enough information about the implementation of Professional Development then a good place to start for additional readings is looking at Articles located on this site.
